Overview

Disney Destiny is the seventh ship of Disney Cruise Line and the third of the Wish class, after Disney Wish (2022) and Disney Treasure (2024). Delivered by Meyer Werft in October 2025 and sent on her maiden voyage on 20 November 2025, she is among the newest large cruise ships in the world at the time of writing. Her design theme — "Heroes and Villains" — is the most era-defining thing about her: where Wish was themed on fairy-tale enchantment and Treasure on adventure, Destiny was designed around the confrontation of light and dark in Disney, Pixar and Marvel stories, from a Wakanda-inspired Grand Hall to Spider-Man on the stern. Technologically she repeats the class formula that marked Disney's break with its own past: liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel and Azipod propulsion, at about 144,000 GT the largest platform the line has operated.

Key specifications

Dataset figures: IMO 9834741, 144,000 GT, 341.8 m length, 39.0 m beam, Meyer Werft hull 706 (the yard's list gives S.706). Her article adds: 15 decks, a height of 67 m, draught 8.6 m, capacity of 2,508 passengers at double occupancy and 4,116 maximum, and a crew of 1,606. Power is from five 12-cylinder MAN 51/60DF dual-fuel LNG engines driving two 19.5 MW ABB Azipod units, with four Wärtsilä bow thrusters; service speed 19.5 knots, maximum 23 knots. The Wish class keeps roughly the cabin count of the preceding Dream class on a substantially larger hull — the growth is in public space and machinery, not in berths.

Design and construction

Disney announced two new ships in March 2016, larger than the Dream class but with an equivalent number of staterooms; a third, the future Destiny, was ordered on 15 July 2017. The class was known internally as the Triton class before taking the lead ship's name. Destiny was built at Meyer Werft's Papenburg yard in Germany: keel laid 30 March 2023, floated in the building dock in March 2025 and floated out on 9 August 2025 (her article's text also gives 3 August for the launch in one passage; the infobox date of 9 August is followed here and the internal inconsistency is noted in the batch notes). She left Papenburg for sea trials on 19 September 2025, was completed in October 2025 — her article gives both 15 and 24 October in different passages — and crossed to Florida, arriving at Port Canaveral on 2 November 2025. Build cost is reported at US$1.1 billion.

Naming, launch and maiden voyage

The name Disney Destiny was officially announced on 20 March 2024; scheduling announcements first pointed to 2026 before the debut was pulled forward to November 2025. Character reveals in July 2024 established the heroes-and-villains theme: bow filigree of "Hero Minnie" in a heroic pose, a Black Panther statue anchoring the Grand Hall, Spider-Man and his Spider-Bots on the stern, and an Iron Man-inspired tower suite. She was christened at Port Everglades on 10 November 2025 (her article's narrative says 19 November in New York City in one passage — the detailed christening account, naming actress and singer Susan Egan, the voice of Megara in Hercules, as godmother and dating the ceremony 10 November at Port Everglades, is followed here; the contradiction is logged). Her maiden voyage sailed on 20 November 2025, a four-night Bahamas cruise from Port Everglades.

Career by operator

Period Name Operator
2025–present Disney Destiny Disney Cruise Line

Her career, at the time of writing, is a beginning rather than a history: a single operator, a single name, and a first season worked from Florida. In line with this directory's evergreen rule, her ongoing deployments are not catalogued; what will endure is her place as the third and, in Disney's announced programme, completing unit of the Wish-class trio built at Papenburg.

Onboard character

Destiny is the fullest expression so far of Disney's ship-as-storytelling-environment approach. The Grand Hall is themed to Wakanda, with a Black Panther figure as its centrepiece; the stern carries Spider-Man; the bow carries Hero Minnie. Signature spaces translate the theme literally — a Doctor Strange Sanctum lounge, De Vil's piano bar drawn from 101 Dalmatians, a Lion King dinner show (Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King), a Worlds of Marvel rotational restaurant and a stage production of Hercules in the Walt Disney Theatre. The class signatures persist around the theme: the AquaMouse water coaster — on Destiny with a villains storyline — rotational dining in which guests and their serving team move together between three restaurants, and musical horns that play Disney melodies, on this ship including "Go the Distance," "Hakuna Matata" and "Cruella De Vil."

Major refits and incidents

None. Disney Destiny entered service in November 2025 and has no refit history and no recorded incidents at the time of writing; this section will acquire content only as her career does. Her build programme itself was uneventful in the public record beyond the schedule changes noted in section 4 — first announced for 2026, then advanced to November 2025.

Sister ships and class

The Wish class comprises Disney Wish (2022), Disney Treasure (2024) and Disney Destiny (2025), all built by Meyer Werft at Papenburg to the LNG-fuelled, Azipod-driven design developed under the Triton name. The class is slightly larger than the preceding Fincantieri-built Dream class (Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy) while retaining a similar stateroom count, and it sits above the original Fincantieri pair Disney Magic and Disney Wonder that founded the fleet. A further, differently-conceived Disney ship, Disney Adventure, was developed separately for the Asian market and is not a Wish-class sister.

Fate and where she is now

In service — the newest ocean-going ship in this batch of the directory, flagged in the Bahamas (Nassau) and operated by Disney Cruise Line from Florida. The dataset status "active, operating" stands.
