Overview

Vista — carried in some sources under the fuller name Oceania Vista, and known in service simply as Vista — was Oceania Cruises' first new ship in more than a decade when she debuted in May 2023, and the first of the line's Allura class; she is the Oceania ship of that name, IMO 9876957, not any of the other vessels that have carried the Vista name. Oceania had built its reputation on two things: a fleet of small, secondhand R-class ships, and the two purpose-built ships Marina (2011) and Riviera (2012). Vista was the moment that model was renewed rather than repeated. She is a culinary ship by design intent: Oceania markets itself as the world's leading culinary- and destination-focused cruise line, and Vista was specified around food and service ratio — 1,200 guests looked after by 800 officers and crew, two crew for every three guests. That ratio, on a 67,817 GT hull, is her defining statistic.

Key specifications

The dataset records her at 67,817 GT and 241 m in length, with a double-occupancy capacity of 1,200 and a crew of 800; published sources are consistent, giving her length as about 241–242 m and noting she was described at announcement as approximately 67,000 GT. Beam and speed are blank in the dataset and are therefore omitted from the spec box. She is registered in the Marshall Islands, and has 607 staterooms by her operator's count, including what Oceania promoted as the most spacious standard staterooms at sea at her launch. She is almost exactly the size of Marina and Riviera in guest numbers while being a generation newer in arrangement — a deliberate decision by a line whose customers liked the earlier pair's scale and did not want a bigger ship.

Design and construction

Vista was built by Fincantieri at Sestri Ponente, Genoa — builder and yard established by the yard's delivery reporting; the dataset records the builder only — as the seventh ship in Oceania's fleet and the lead ship of a two-ship order placed in January 2019, the first Allura-class ship for delivery in 2023 and the second in 2025. Oceania made an unusual amount of its design process: when the name was revealed in March 2021, the line said the ship represented the vision of its own officers and crew, who had played a pivotal role in her design, and that she was named for them — Vista for the view forward, in honour of the "true visionaries of the seven seas." In arrangement she follows Marina and Riviera closely enough for returning guests to recognise the layout, with the public rooms rebuilt to a new decorative scheme and the interior reworked around space and food: larger standard staterooms, an outsized galley for her size — her operator claimed the largest galley per capita at sea — and a layout in which dining venues occupy a share of the ship unusual even for Oceania. She was delivered on 1 May 2023, Oceania's first new ship since the Marina/Riviera generation of 2011–12.

Naming, launch and maiden voyage

The name Vista was announced on 16 March 2021, explained as representing the dawn of a new age in travel and the line's view to the future; inaugural voyages opened for sale in September 2021. Her launch, in the sense of float-out, is not dated in the sources consulted. She was christened at Valletta, Malta, on 8 May 2023 by her godmother, the Italian-American chef and television personality Giada De Laurentiis, with a concert by Harry Connick Jr. as part of the ceremony — a chef as godmother being a pointed choice for a culinary line; De Laurentiis also created two signature dishes for the ship, and the christening took place during a seven-night round-trip VIP voyage from Rome. Her maiden voyage for fare-paying guests followed on 13 May 2023, from Rome to Venice. The dataset's month-only entry is the cautious version and is retained in the spec box.

Career by operator

She has carried one name for one operator.

Period Name Operator
2023–present Vista Oceania Cruises

Her career to date is that of a first-of-class flagship: she re-established Oceania as a new-building line after an eleven-year gap and set the pattern her sister would follow. No transfer, charter or renaming has been reported in the sources used for this guide.

Onboard character

Vista's character is Belle Époque-inflected luxury arranged around eating. Her Grand Dining Room rises almost two decks and was designed as a contemporary interpretation of early twentieth-century Parisian society — the grand room as theatre, in a style Oceania had used before but executed here at full height for the first time in a decade. Around it the ship was delivered with eleven dining venues for 1,200 guests, including three concepts introduced on her — Ember, a signature restaurant of elevated American cooking; Aquamar Kitchen, a wellness-oriented venue; and an expanded bakery attached to the line's Baristas coffee bar — together with an expanded Culinary Center for hands-on cookery teaching and an Artist Loft for resident-artist instruction. Those are era-defining choices rather than a deck-plan list: a mid-sized luxury ship whose public investment went into kitchens, teaching spaces and a two-deck dining room rather than into rides or large-scale entertainment. Accommodation followed the same intent — enlarged standard staterooms, a high proportion of suites, and every stateroom with either a true balcony or a French veranda, so no guest is in an inside cabin.

Major refits and incidents

No major refit is recorded for Vista; she is a ship in the first years of her career, and none has fallen due for a vessel delivered in 2023. No casualty, fire, grounding or other major incident appears in the sources used for this guide, and none has been invented to fill this section. Her early career is a record of firsts rather than events: first Allura-class ship, first Oceania newbuild of the 2020s, and the platform on which her sister's 2025 debut was built.

Sister ships and class

Vista is the lead ship of the Allura class, a two-ship class built by Fincantieri. Her sister is Allura, delivered in 2025 at the same 67,817 GT and from the same builder — the ship announced alongside her in 2021 as the unnamed second Allura-class vessel for 2025 delivery, completing the two-ship order of January 2019. The pair replace the Marina/Riviera design as Oceania's flagship platform while keeping its guest count, and sit between those 2011–12 ships and the larger Sonata class ordered from 2024 — a deliberate bridge generation: new design language and interiors on a proven scale. Earlier Oceania tonnage — the R-class ships, and Marina and Riviera — are not her sisters; they are the fleet she was built to succeed.

Fate and where she is now

Vista is in active service with Oceania Cruises, Marshall Islands-flagged, recorded in the dataset as status active and fate "Operating". She is the senior ship of the Allura class, and no change of name, operator or status has been reported in the sources used here. Her main historical fact is already settled: she restarted Oceania's newbuilding programme after a decade and set the design direction — space per guest and food above all — that later orders have followed.
