Built by Meyer Werft at Papenburg, Germany, between 1995 and 1997, the three Century-class ships measure between 72,458 and 77,302 GT. They were built for Celebrity Cruises as Century, Galaxy and Mercury, the premium line's mid-1990s expansion, and introduced touches that became Celebrity hallmarks, including the Martini Bar and a strong emphasis on spa facilities and modern art collections. What defines the class today is its second life: remarkably, all three ships survive intact and sail together again, transferred one by one to Marella Cruises and renamed Marella Explorer, Marella Explorer 2 and Marella Voyager — a rare case of a complete class reunited under a single new operator.
