UnCruise Adventures is an American small-ship adventure cruise line. It was founded in 1996 in Everett, Washington, as American Safari Cruises, and pioneered yacht cruising in Alaska, offering an alternative to the large-ship trade: very small vessels, United States-flagged and crewed, taking a few dozen guests into coves, fjords and small communities that bigger ships pass by. The company was acquired by its present Alaska-based ownership in 2008, expanded its fleet, partly with ships taken on from the defunct Cruise West, and adopted the name Un-Cruise Adventures in 2013, shortened to UnCruise Adventures in 2016. It works from offices in Seattle, at Fishermen's Terminal, and in Juneau, Alaska. The three ships in this directory are characteristic of the fleet's older expedition tonnage. Wilderness Explorer, dating from 1976, Safari Endeavour, from 1983, and Wilderness Legacy, from 1984 and the largest of the three at 1,472 GT, are all small, rugged vessels built for close-quarters work, carrying expedition guides, kayaks and landing craft rather than the entertainment facilities of a conventional cruise ship.
