Overview
Seven Seas Grandeur is the third Explorer-class ship built by Fincantieri for Regent Seven Seas Cruises, delivered in November 2023 and entering service with a maiden voyage on 18 November 2023. She follows Seven Seas Explorer (2016) and Seven Seas Splendor (2020) — the ships with which Regent rebuilt its fleet around a single, spacious, all-suite, all-balcony formula.
Regent markets her, in its own phrase at float-out, as a heritage of perfection refined — the third iteration of a design the line uses to claim the highest space and staff ratios in its segment. The numbers support the positioning, if not the adjectives: 55,500 GT for 746 guests and 548 crew, in 375 suites, every one with a balcony in Regent's descriptions. She became the sixth ship in the Regent fleet on delivery.
Key specifications
Dataset: 55,500 GT, 223.7 m by 31 m, 746 guests double occupancy and 825 maximum, 548 crew, 20.5 knots, hull 6282 at Fincantieri Ancona. Fincantieri's own ship page gives a closely matching set — 55,182 gross tonnage in its data sheet, the same length and beam, service speed 19.4 knots and maximum 20.5 knots — so the dataset's speed figure is the ship's maximum rather than her service speed, and its tonnage is the rounded marketing figure. Both variants are logged; the spec box above retains the dataset values as instructed.
Installed power on Fincantieri's data sheet is diesel-electric: four MaK 8M43C diesels totalling 32,000 kW feeding two 9,000 kW propulsion motors. Passenger cabins total 377 on the builder's count, including a single Owner (Regent) Suite, against Regent's own count of 375 suites — a two-cabin counting difference of no operational consequence, noted here for accuracy.
Design and construction
Built at Ancona, Fincantieri's yard for all three Explorer-class ships, she was floated out in early 2023 — the float-out was reported in February 2023 coverage looking ahead to a November debut — and completed fitting out afloat before delivery in November 2023. The dataset's roster source is Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings' delivery press release, the primary corporate record of her handover.
Design is by the class's established team approach: naval architecture from Fincantieri, interiors led by Studio DADO in Regent's later ships, with suites by Tillberg Design in secondary descriptions. The era-defining elements are material rather than mechanical: extensive Italian marble, hundreds of crystal chandeliers, and a curated original art collection whose signature piece at delivery was a Fabergé egg displayed in the atrium — luxury signalling of a very traditional kind, executed at contemporary scale.
The top accommodation, the Regent Suite, is described at about 4,443–4,445 square feet including a wraparound terrace, with an in-suite spa room — the class's calling card since Explorer.
Naming, launch and maiden voyage
One name only, Seven Seas Grandeur, continuing Regent's Seven Seas nomenclature and the class's superlative naming pattern (Explorer, Splendor, Grandeur). Launched / floated out in 2023 and delivered that November, she made her maiden voyage on 18 November 2023, recorded in the dataset; Regent's float-out coverage noted that demand led the line to add an additional inaugural-season sailing, a seven-night Adriatic and western Mediterranean voyage from Trieste to Barcelona, ahead of the originally planned programme.
No godmother is recorded in the dataset or in the delivery sources used here.
Career by operator
| Period | Name | Operator |
|---|---|---|
| 2023–present | Seven Seas Grandeur | Regent Seven Seas Cruises |
Single name, single operator, career in its early years. Within the fleet she is the newest of the three Explorer-class sisters and, until the larger Seven Seas Prestige generation arrives, joint-flagship by design generation rather than by size.
Onboard character
Character is defined by the Explorer-class formula perfected, in the line's word, over three ships: all-suite, all-balcony accommodation; a two-level spa and wellness offer in Regent's Serene Spa branding; a Constellation Theater; and a set of distinct restaurants — Compass Rose as the main room, with Prime 7 steakhouse, Chartreuse French and Pacific Rim among the class's established venues — presented as included luxury rather than as surcharge specialities. Public rooms are formal, chandelier-lit and art-led, closer to a grand hotel than to the resort ships of Regent's parent company's other brands.
The near one-to-one-and-a-third guest-to-crew ratio and the low guest count for the tonnage produce the ship's real signature: uncrowded decks and public rooms on a ship that is, by contemporary standards, mid-sized.
Major refits and incidents
None recorded. A 2023 ship in her first years of service; no major refit, casualty or notable incident appears in the sources used for this guide.
Sister ships and class
Explorer class, per the dataset: Seven Seas Explorer (2016, Sestri Ponente) and Seven Seas Splendor (2020, Ancona) precede her; she is the third and, as ordered, final ship of the class, with Regent's next generation — the larger Seven Seas Prestige, due 2026 from Fincantieri Marghera per fleet reporting — moving to about 77,000 GT. Within the wider Regent fleet she sails alongside the smaller, earlier Navigator, Mariner and Voyager.
Fate and where she is now
Active with Regent Seven Seas Cruises, per the dataset and the operator's delivery record. A nearly new ship at the top of her owner's market; no sale, transfer or renaming is recorded or credibly reported, and her expected fate is a long career in the ultra-luxury segment alongside her two class sisters.
