Overview
Disney Treasure is the sixth ship built for Disney Cruise Line and the second vessel of the Wish class, following Disney Wish (2022). Built by Meyer Werft at Papenburg, Germany, she is a liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered ship themed, inside and out, around adventure — Disney's own framing for a design that draws on its most exploration-minded stories and on the architecture of the theme parks. She entered service on 21 December 2024 and, at 144,256 GT, she and her sisters are the largest ships in the Disney fleet, noticeably bigger than the preceding Dream class while carrying a similar number of guest cabins.
Key specifications
The dataset records 144,256 GT, a length of 341.8 m and a beam of 39.0 m. The ship's own particulars add the machinery behind those figures: five 12-cylinder MAN 51/60DF dual-fuel engines running principally on LNG, driving two ABB Azipod azimuthing pods of 19.5 MW each, with four Wärtsilä bow thrusters. Service speed is 19.5 knots, with a maximum of 23 knots. Capacity is 2,492 passengers at double occupancy and 4,000 at maximum, with a crew of 1,555. The Wish class was a technical break for the line: its first LNG fuel, its first podded propulsion, and a hull form and general arrangement developed from the Dream-class template rather than copied from it.
Design and construction
During development the class was known internally as the Triton class; the Wish name arrived with the first ship. The design keeps Disney's deliberately retro exterior language — a black hull, red funnels with the Mickey Mouse emblem, and gold detailing — wrapped around a thoroughly modern LNG plant. Construction used Meyer Werft's modular method, and one early component was newsworthy in itself: the floating engine room unit, 140 by 39 metres and housing the MAN engines and LNG tanks, was built at Neptun Werft in Rostock and transferred to Papenburg, where the first section of the ship arrived in November 2022. The keel was laid on 30 March 2023, with a Captain Minnie Mouse coin placed beneath it, and the hull was complete by December 2023.
Naming, launch and maiden voyage
Disney confirmed the name Disney Treasure at the D23 Expo on 11 September 2022, two years before delivery. The ship was floated out at Papenburg on 3 August 2024, left the yard in September via the Ems conveyance to Eemshaven, and ran sea trials in the Skagerrak. Meyer Werft delivered her early, on 24 October 2024 at Eemshaven. Her sponsors were not a single godmother but, symbolically, Disney cast members, crew, Imagineers and employees worldwide. She was christened in New York City on 19 November 2024, and her maiden voyage departed Port Canaveral on 21 December 2024.
Career by operator
| Period | Name | Operator |
|---|---|---|
| 2024–present | Disney Treasure | Disney Cruise Line |
The ship has had one name and one operator throughout her short life. Ordered as part of the programme first announced on 3 March 2016 — with a third ship of the design added in July 2017 — she was at one stage expected in 2022; the pandemic-era reshuffle of the orderbook pushed her delivery to 2024.
Onboard character
The Wish class moved Disney's interior concept from the earlier ships' Art Deco and Art Nouveau palaces to story-world immersion, and Treasure is the adventure variant of that idea. Her Grand Hall is modelled on a gilded palace drawing on Asian and African architecture and the fictional Agrabah, with a bronze statue of Aladdin, Jasmine and the Magic Carpet where earlier ships placed Cinderella or Ariel figures. Signature spaces announced for the ship include a theatrical dining room drawn from Pixar's Coco, a stage adaptation of Moana, a lounge based on the Haunted Mansion attraction — a first for the line — and the AquaMouse water coaster in the forward funnel, a Wish-class signature. The point of the design is not novelty equipment but themed environments: the ship was conceived as a floating extension of the parks' storytelling rather than a resort that happens to move.
Major refits and incidents
A ship this young has had no refit. Her one notable incident came before she had carried a paying passenger: on the delivery voyage across the Atlantic in November 2024, Disney Treasure answered a distress situation off Bermuda, taking aboard a family of four from a sailboat that was taking on water roughly 80 miles offshore. All four were brought aboard safely.
Sister ships and class
The Wish class — Triton class during development — comprises Disney Wish (2022), Disney Treasure (2024) and Disney Destiny (2025), all built by Meyer Werft at Papenburg to the same 144,256 GT platform. The class succeeded the Dream class (Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy) and retained roughly that design's cabin count within a larger, LNG-powered hull.
Fate and where she is now
Disney Treasure is in active service with Disney Cruise Line, registered in Nassau, Bahamas. No change of name, operator or role has been announced; her story so far is that of a new flagship-generation ship at the start of a long first career.
