Overview
Mein Schiff Relax is the first InTUItion-class ship for Germany's TUI Cruises and, at 157,651 GT, by far the largest ship the line has operated. She broke two TUI conventions at once: she was the line's first ship built in Italy rather than Finland, and the first to carry a word rather than a number in her name. Ordered in 2018 as the first of a new LNG-powered concept based on Fincantieri's Project Mille platform, she represents TUI Cruises' step from its long-running Meyer Turku series into a bigger, dual-fuel generation. She entered service in March 2025.
Key specifications
The dataset records 157,651 GT, a length of 332.63 m and a beam of 42.14 m, a maximum capacity of 3,984 passengers and a crew of 1,535. Some published summaries round her tonnage to about 160,000 GT and give slightly different overall dimensions and crew figures; the registered-style figures in the dataset are used here, and the variants are logged with this guide's build notes. The dataset leaves her service speed blank, so none is stated in the spec box; her design is built around dual-fuel machinery rather than speed. She has 19 decks according to her reference article.
Design and construction
The ship was ordered on 12 July 2018 as the first of two new-concept ships. The design brief put energy efficiency at the centre: dual-fuel engines able to run on LNG or marine gas oil, prepared for bio- and e-LNG when those fuels become available, catalytic converters meeting Euro 6 standards, a turbine recovering residual heat from the generators to support near-emission-free running in port, and a shore-power connection. The interior masterplan was by Wilson Butler Architects, with entertainment venues also theirs, and other areas by 3Deluxe, Tillberg Design of Sweden and JOI-Design. First steel was cut in June 2022; unusually, the bow section was built at the Vard yard in Tulcea, Romania, and towed to Monfalcone for assembly into hull 6312. Her name was announced in October 2023 — a deliberate break from the numbered sequence that had run from Mein Schiff 1 onwards.
Naming, launch and maiden voyage
Mein Schiff Relax was floated out at Monfalcone in November 2023 (28 November 2023 in her reference article), with shipyard employee Elena Sperti as honorary godmother of the float-out. Sea trials followed in October and December 2024, including a dry-docking at Palermo. She was delivered on 7 February 2025, moved to Trieste, and departed on 24 February 2025 for Palma de Mallorca. She debuted on 2 March 2025 (the date recorded in the dataset; one trade source gives a 16 March inaugural-cruise date — the variant is logged in the dataset notes). Her christening ceremony was held separately, on 9 April 2025 at Málaga, with TUI spa and sport manager Giuliana Rizzo as godmother, singer Robbie Williams performing, and Mein Schiff 5 and Mein Schiff 7 in attendance.
Career by operator
Mein Schiff Relax has had one name and one operator.
| Period | Name | Operator |
|---|---|---|
| 2025–present | Mein Schiff Relax | TUI Cruises |
Her debut season was spent in the Mediterranean from Palma de Mallorca, as recorded at her entry into service. This guide does not follow her subsequent deployments, which are a matter of seasonal scheduling rather than the ship's permanent record.
Onboard character
The defining idea of the InTUItion class is in the name TUI chose for it: intuition — a ship arranged so that the generous, informal "premium all-inclusive" style TUI sells to the German market works at a much larger scale. The design team was split by discipline rather than given to a single studio, with entertainment architecture, public-room design and interiors handled by different practices. Combined with the environmental machinery — LNG capability, waste-heat recovery, shore power — the ship's character is that of the 2020s large resort ship re-engineered around fuel flexibility, rather than a simple enlargement of the Meyer Turku ships that preceded her.
Major refits and incidents
No refit has been reported for Mein Schiff Relax, and no significant incident involving her had been reported in the sources used for this guide at the time of writing. She is a new ship; this section will only grow with age.
Sister ships and class
Mein Schiff Relax is the first of the InTUItion class. Her sister Mein Schiff Flow followed in 2026, and TUI has announced further sisters for the early 2030s. The class is distinct from the line's earlier Meyer Turku-built ships (Mein Schiff 3 to Mein Schiff 7), being larger, Italian-built and LNG-capable.
Fate and where she is now
Mein Schiff Relax is in active service with TUI Cruises (status as recorded in the dataset), as the flagship of the line's current fleet programme.
