Built by Meyer Turku at the Perno shipyard in Turku, Finland, between 2024 and 2025, the Icon class is Royal Caribbean's liquefied natural gas platform — and the largest class of cruise ships ever built, each of its three ships measuring 248,663 GT. The lead ship, Icon of the Seas, is the world's largest cruise ship, and the design reorganises the mega-ship around eight distinct neighbourhoods, including the AquaDome, a vast glass dome housing an aqua theatre, and a suspended infinity pool in the adults-only Hideaway. LNG power, waste-heat recovery and other efficiency measures underpin the spectacle. Star of the Seas and Legend of the Seas repeat the record-breaking formula.
