Azamara was founded in 2007 by Royal Caribbean as a boutique, destination-focused line, and sold to private ownership in 2021. It has never operated a newbuild: its entire fleet consists of second-hand ships of a single, distinctive design. All four ships in this directory — Azamara Onward, Azamara Journey, Azamara Quest and Azamara Pursuit — are R-class vessels of exactly 30,277 GT, built between 1999 and 2001 for the short-lived Renaissance Cruises. When Renaissance failed, its eight near-identical ships were scattered among several operators; four eventually came to Azamara, while sisters sail for Oceania Cruises, which built its early fleet on the same hardware. At about 30,000 GT and carrying only a few hundred guests, the R-class ships give Azamara its character: small, club-like vessels able to use ports and berths beyond the reach of larger cruise ships.
