Overview
Silver Dawn is an ultra-luxury cruise ship operated by Silversea Cruises, the Monaco-based line owned by Royal Caribbean Group. She is the third ship of Silversea's Muse class, following Silver Muse (2017) and Silver Moon (2020), and she became the tenth ship in the Silversea fleet when she was delivered by Fincantieri at Ancona, Italy, in November 2021. Her maiden voyage followed in the spring of 2022.
The Muse class is Silversea's luxury platform of the period: about 40,700 GT, fewer than 600 guests, all in suites, most with verandas. Silver Dawn's claim on the record is programmatic rather than structural: she introduced Otium, Silversea's Roman-inspired wellness programme, and carried the S.A.L.T. (Sea And Land Taste) culinary programme into its next iteration. In a fleet where the hardware evolves slowly, Dawn is where the software changed.
Key specifications
The dataset row for Silver Dawn is deliberately thin: it records only her name, her operator Silversea Cruises, a launch year of 2021, an active status, and no IMO number, tonnage or dimensions. The spec box above therefore shows only what the dataset states. The figures in this section come from the research sources listed at the end of this guide, and they agree closely with each other because the Muse class is a repeat design.
Silversea and Fincantieri material puts the class at 40,700 GT. Baird Maritime's report of the 2018 order describes a vessel of 212.8 m by 27 m, and ship summaries give an overall length of about 213 m (698 ft) and a speed of about 20 knots. She accommodates 596 guests in 298 ocean-view suites, 96 per cent of them with a private veranda, served by a crew of 411 — a crew-to-guest ratio of about 1:1.45 that Silversea itself emphasised at delivery. Her IMO number is not stated in the dataset and was not confirmed from a primary source for this guide.
Design and construction
Silver Dawn was ordered from Fincantieri in May 2018, in a contract reported at about €320 million, as the third Muse-class ship and the fourth ship Fincantieri would build for Silversea. Unlike the lead ship Silver Muse, which was built at Sestri Ponente (Genoa), Dawn was built at Fincantieri's Ancona yard on the Adriatic, following her sister Silver Moon from the same yard.
Fincantieri's float-out release conveys the build's scale: more than 390 contributing companies, about 1,000 specialists at peak, more than 15,000 steel plates cut, and some 1,690,000 metres of electrical cable laid by eighteen suppliers. The hull and arrangement are the proven Muse design; the innovation budget was spent inside, on the programmes in section 6.
Naming, launch and maiden voyage
Silver Dawn touched water for the first time at her float-out at Ancona on 14 January 2021 — the event the dataset's 2021 launch year records. Fitting out took most of that year, and Silversea took delivery of the ship at Ancona in November 2021, in a small ceremony at which Silversea's president and CEO Roberto Martinoli signed for the ship.
Delivery was not entry into service. She was formally named in Lisbon at the end of March 2022 by her godmother Nilou Motamed, food and travel editor and former editor-in-chief of Food & Wine and Epicurious — a choice underlining her culinary positioning. Her inaugural voyage departed on 1 April 2022, Lisbon to Barcelona. Some commercial summaries give 2022 as her "launch year": that is her service-entry year, not her float-out.
Career by operator
Silver Dawn has had one name and one operator.
| Period | Name | Operator |
|---|---|---|
| 2021–present | Silver Dawn | Silversea Cruises |
Her career so far is the standard pattern for a new Muse-class ship: worldwide luxury deployment following the seasons, rather than a single home port. She was the third new Silversea vessel delivered since the start of 2020, part of the fleet renewal following Royal Caribbean Group's 2018 acquisition of a controlling stake in Silversea. No sale, charter out or renaming has been recorded.
Onboard character
Two programmes define Silver Dawn's interior character, and both were designed as ideas rather than as rooms. S.A.L.T., inherited from Silver Moon, ties the ship's cooking to the places she visits: a dedicated kitchen, a chef's-table-style lab and menus that change with the region alongside shore excursions built around food. Otium, which debuted on Dawn, takes the opposite of the usual spa philosophy. Named for the Roman idea of leisure — time given to bathing, conversation, eating, drinking and rest — it treats indulgence rather than abstinence as the point of wellness, and it was designed to run from the suites through a redesigned spa of almost 800 square metres to treatments and rituals across the ship.
Around those programmes sits the standard Muse arrangement: all-suite accommodation, small dining venues rather than one vast restaurant, and public rooms scaled to under 600 guests — lounges, a library, an observation room and a pool deck. The intent is residential calm rather than spectacle.
Major refits and incidents
Silver Dawn is a young ship, and no major refit has been recorded for her in the sources used for this guide; ships of her age and class typically receive only routine dry-dock maintenance in their first years, and no programme of alteration comparable to her delivery specification has been announced in those sources. No incident — fire, grounding, collision or mechanical failure causing cancellation — is recorded for this hull in the sources consulted. Where later reporting establishes a refit or an incident, this section is the place it belongs; nothing has been inferred or borrowed from her sister ships' records, whose histories are their own.
Sister ships and class
The Muse class consists of three ships: Silver Muse (delivered 2017 from Fincantieri Sestri Ponente), Silver Moon (delivered 2020 from Fincantieri Ancona) and Silver Dawn (delivered 2021 from Fincantieri Ancona). All three are of about 40,700 GT and carry 596 guests in 298 suites. The class is also referred to in some trade reporting as the Moon class, after the second ship, but Silversea's own usage — and the name of the lead ship — makes Muse class the clearer label.
The class bridged Silversea's earlier one-off luxury ships and the larger, LNG-fuelled Nova class that followed (Silver Nova, 2023; Silver Ray, 2024). Dawn, the last and most programme-heavy of the three, is in effect the finished Muse idea.
Fate and where she is now
Silver Dawn remains in active service with Silversea Cruises under her original name, as the dataset records. She has no fate to report: no sale, lay-up or withdrawal has been announced for the hull, and as a ship delivered in 2021 she is among the younger vessels in the Silversea fleet. Her record so far is a short one — a pandemic-era build, a delayed ceremonial debut, and a career defined so far by the two onboard programmes, S.A.L.T. and Otium, that she was chosen to carry.
