Kvaerner Masa-Yards was the Finnish yard group formed in 1991 when Norway's Kvaerner joined Masa-Yards, the company created after Wärtsilä Marine's bankruptcy, bringing together the Helsinki and Turku yards. In little more than a decade it built 19 of the Phase 1 ships listed here, and two defining classes of the modern cruise era. At Turku's Perno yard it built Royal Caribbean's five Voyager-class ships, from Voyager of the Seas in 1999, then the largest cruise ships in the world, with their interior Royal Promenades. At Helsinki — the Hietalahti and Helsinki New yards — it built six of Carnival's Spirit-class ships, the final Fantasy-class pair, and luxury tonnage such as Crystal Symphony and Europa. The group was later folded into Aker Yards and then STX Finland, and its Turku yard eventually passed to Meyer ownership — the same slipways, under new names.
