Royal Caribbean International

Royal Caribbean International was founded in 1968 by three Norwegian shipping companies — Anders Wilhelmsen, I. M. Skaugen and Gotaas Larsen — and put its first ship, Song of Norway, into service in 1970. From the start the line was built around purpose-designed ships for warm-water cruising rather than converted liners, and scale became its signature: successive generations have repeatedly held the title of the world's largest cruise ships. The fleet listed below spans that modern era in four broad steps. The Vision and Radiance classes, at roughly 74,000 to 90,000 GT, are the line's mid-sized ships. The Voyager and Freedom classes took the design past 137,000 GT, and the Oasis class, beginning with Oasis of the Seas in 2009, moved it beyond 225,000 GT. The Quantum class sits between those groups at about 169,000 GT, and the LNG-powered Icon class, led by Icon of the Seas, now tops the fleet at 248,663 GT.
